About

Shagar Community Association is an Edmonton-based nonprofit community organization dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees, newcomers, youth, women, children, seniors, unemployed individuals, low-income families, and vulnerable members of society.

Who we are

Shagar Community Association (SHCA) is an Edmonton-based nonprofit community organization founded on August 11, 2023. We support immigrants, refugees, newcomers, youth, women, children, seniors, job seekers, low-income families, and anyone who needs a helping hand. We believe everyone deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunity, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, language, disability, or income.

We work to bridge the gap between people and essential community resources, focusing on employment, education, settlement, anti-racism, human rights, and social inclusion. By collaborating with employers, schools, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community partners, we help individuals and families access the services and opportunities they need to thrive.

Our mission

To empower newcomers, immigrants, refugees, families, youth, and underserved communities by improving access to employment, education, settlement resources, social services, human rights information, and economic opportunities while promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and community development.

Our vision

To build a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and economically empowered society where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, live with dignity, contribute to their community, and achieve their full potential.
